What's Behind Your Paint?

'I found the cutest house!' A friend once told me. I was eager to go see it! Being a real estate pro, friends and family ask for advice all the time. I am happy to assist when I can. A common situation I have faced on more than one occasion is the allure of new paint wooing a potential new home owner.

We take a trip the the 'cute house' and walk in. Fresh paint, new carpet, smells like it's just been cleaned. It hit all the major senses to get us wrapped in - sight, and smell. I walked around taking in what appeared to be a nicely styled home. As I entered into the kitchen, the island in the middle caught my eye - I could see someone cooking there. But as my gaze wandered to the corners, I noticed the color was off in a few places.

Taking a closer look - I see a few bubbles and then 'Ah-Ha!' what appears to my trained eye? A rather nice sized area that I can only assume is mold behind the paint.

We have renovated many homes and mold or wall discolorations are nothing new. The difference is at Stellaris - we don't leave them to paint over them. We remove the area or treat the area so that the new home owner will not have to worry about it growing and moving to different areas. There are a few reasons why it is important to take care of these issues.

First it's a matter of health. We want our homes to be free of any potential health hazards. If I wouldn't live there - we don't believe in subjecting our buyers to the environment. Second, longevity. We don't want to just sell you a house today. We want it to last as long as you need and want to be in the home. Of course things always happen with property - but we take precautions to make sure that we renovated a space that allows you to grow into it. Third, it's not really pretty if the nastiness is underneath. Nuff said!

When I pointed out the areas to my friend - well it was time to go. My message to you is an oldie but goodie - everything that is pretty on the outside well you know the rest, it just may not be what the paint leads us to believe.
